Link to Fairwinds Water Conservation
Challenge
| |

|
The Fairwinds Community Association was formed in
November 1993. One of the five areas of concern, at that time, was the
ineffective treatment of water in the area. Since that time, the
quality of the water has improved greatly, but there is still a long way to
go. The quantity of water was sufficient until recently.
As the community grows the demand for water grows with it. The
Fairwinds Community Association formed a water committee in 2002.
Their mandate was to monitor the quality and quantity of water in Fairwinds
and to liaise with the government bodies that regulate it.
Two groups were then formed: |

The Fairwinds
Community Association Water Conservation Committee
|
| |
This committee focuses on the efficient use of water in our community.
Our members work with the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), other agencies & businesses to promote
conservation through awareness, educational workshops, annual garden & water
conservation information day and other community initiatives.

The Fairwinds
Community Association Water Quality & Quantity Committee
|
| |
This committee focuses on the improvement of water
conditions in the community. It has researched some options that the
households can implement to improve their own circumstances, while they wait
for the Regional District of Nanaimo to get the improved filtration systems
and pumps in place. |
